We will be discussing the need for change in our American education system through a racial equity lens as students. Access to education needs to include the point of access to quality education, that serves all students. The NAACP Youth Council has created a list of demands that addresses many issues in our school system relating to equity-including the hiring and retention of more BIPOC educators and the need for more restorative justice processes to be implemented in place of outdated discipline practices. These are all parts of a students educational journey that can be overlooked but nevertheless have a deeply profound impact on us.
